Urban Terror is a realism fanatics wet dream. The weapons are modeled and animated right down to the last detail. Even the shell ejection guard on the M4/1A Carbine is animated, as are reload and bandaging sequences, And they are animated from both the first person views and from the outside of the model! The reload animations are weapon specific so no matter what you are holding, reloads happen in the correct place for each weapon. The animations are also coupled with a hit detection system, hit someone in the leg and expect him to go limping away. The total extent of the animations are phenomenal!

Urban Terror also comes comes complete with it's own model set and skins, but that wasn't enough for this mod. Anything you decide to carry or wear will also be visible. Kevlar vest's, helmets, weapons, and medipacks are all seen attached to the models and that still wasn't enough. Shoot someone when they're near a wall and you get to see the blood spatter (among other things) left behind. Wounded players will also leave a nice and gross trail of blood until they bandage themselves up. Gives one that warm and fussy feeling just thinking about it.

The maps take you from big American city setups to Middle Eastern desert villages and every where in between. All of the mapping is of very good quality on the worst side and out right excellent on the best. Theme and execution are all top notch and with the exception of one map, all of them are easy on the CPU. That one map, ut_rommel, may be a CPU killer but it also stands out on its own as an example of realist mapping excellence. If you can't get the framerate on it, just go into spectator mode and admire the scenery. Even so, a quick adjustment in Quake should render framerates acceptable on ut_rommel. After all, being modeled on the last battle scene in Saving Private Ryan, and very well too, I find the framerate hit quite acceptable.
